We went behind the scenes at WB Games Montreal to take a look at LEGO Legends of CHIMA Online, the new free to play MMORPG based on the successful toyline and TV show. We talked to Louis, creative director, about some of the game’s key features.
LEGO Legends of CHIMA Online is the series’ third game and its first MMORPG. The game’s story and quests follow the TV shows and takes about 30 to 40 hours to complete. There are 15 dungeons with challenging boss fights. The loot system is similar to what we’ve seen in Borderlands: it’s attributed according to your group’s numbers and configuration. WB confirmed that more content – quests, dungeons, gear – will come later in the form of timely updates.
Even though this is an online game, it’s completely safe for kids. It features great parental controls and account creation requires minimal personal information.
In true LEGO fashion, the game is colourful, humouristic and features great puzzles. All the characters, gear and settings are made of LEGO bricks and could technically be recreated in real life, provided you had the patience and a large stash of LEGO bricks. Even the character and building upgrades are unlocked by finding building instructions much like the ones provided with the toys. The game is geared for children 7 to 12 y-old but is fun for any age. WB Games created a game for children and parents to play together.
LEGO Legends of CHIMA Online is free to play and can be completed without a paid membership. However, members get perks that speeds up progression including special powers, buildings, upgrades and can earn gold bricks and studs faster. Membership is 7$/month.
The games is available on PC through any browser and on iOS.
