Dark Souls has been quite omnipresent in my life as it is my spouse’s favourite game series. What always stood out to me about the Dark Souls universe is its unique and detailed art style. I particularly love the character design. Although it is a world ravaged by decay and death, Dark Souls’ aesthetic is quite delicate and organic.
Our very own Simon is also a fan and after watching him stream the last DLC, I was inspired to draw the Fire Keeper. This piece was originally done on stream in the span of three hours. Through the magic of video editing, I’ve sped it up and shortened to 10 minutes.
In this speed paint, I walk you through my process: sketch, clean up, lineart, shading and final touches. I worked on gray paper using black china ink, liquid white acrylic, a dip pen and various synthetic hair brushes.
I hope you enjoyed this and if you have any request for future fanart pieces, please leave them in the comments below as I’m always looking for fun new projects.
